Bank of Thailand Unveils New Series of Polymer Banknotes
Thailand to Launch New Polymer 50 and 100 Baht Notes in November 2025
The Bank of Thailand (BoT) has confirmed the upcoming release of new polymer versions of the 50 and 100 baht banknotes, designed to offer greater durability, improved security features, and longer life in circulation.
Stronger, Cleaner, Greener
During a recent press briefing, BoT Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput emphasized the benefits of this transition to polymer material. Unlike paper notes, the new versions will be resistant to moisture, dirt, and wear, allowing them to stay in good condition for much longer. Based on prior experience with the polymer 20 baht note, these new notes are expected to last up to four times longer, significantly reducing production and environmental costs.
By extending the lifespan of each banknote, the Bank of Thailand aims to cut the replacement rate by at least 350 million notes annually, leading to more efficient use of resources.
Familiar Design, Upgraded Security

Although the new 50 and 100 baht notes will retain the current design layout, they will incorporate several advanced anti-counterfeiting features, including:
• A transparent security window visible from both sides,
• An embossed denomination numeral within the window,
• Color-shifting ink that changes depending on viewing angle.
Improved Accessibility for the Visually Impaired
The BoT has also taken steps to enhance accessibility, particularly for people with visual impairments. The new notes will include:
• Braille-style tactile symbols indicating denomination,
• Raised diagonal lines on both sides to help users identify the note by touch.
Circulation Starts November 21
The official release date for the new 50 and 100 baht polymer notes is November 21, 2025. They will be available through commercial banks, specialized financial institutions, and ATMs (for 100 baht notes). Importantly, existing paper notes remain legal tender and will continue to be accepted in parallel.
